The 2025 Summer League Sixers: Who I Like and Who I Don't
AU renders extremely early final judgment.
It feels pretty early to already be three games into Summer League, doesn't it? Wasn't that long ago we were celebrating (while also sorta seething about) the Sixers getting the No. 3 pick in the draft, and then it was actually draft night, and then free agency, and now all of a sudden we've got live Sixers basketball again, and lots of it. It's all enough to make you forget that last Sixers season ended months earlier than we wanted or expected it to — or that once this Summer season ends, all we have to look forward to on the calendar is about five or six consecutive Augusts to come.
But still — Sixers Summer League! We actually got to watch V.J. Edgecombe — for exactly one game before a mysterious thumb ailment derailed his inaugural Utah run; welcome to the Sixers V.J. Edgecombe. We even won a game, despite it being Summer League mandate that the Sixers forever lose every close game by exactly four points. And there's more to come in Las Vegas in surprisingly short order — god forbid we actually save anything for August One — but it's all just extra time at this point anyway; I've already seen enough to make my annual conclusive judgments on the guys I do and don't like from this Sixers Summer squad. Here's what we've got this year:
Jalen Hood-Schifino: I don't like him.
Jalen Slawson: I don't like him (doesn't play or look enough like Shake Milton to justify him wearing No. 18) (that one dunk was sick though).
Justin Edwards: I don't like when he misses shots or turns the ball over — which during Summer League is all the time — but otherwise of course I like him.
Johni Broome: I don't like him nearly as much as I hoped I would.
Izan Almansa: I don't like him.
Keve Aluma: Last year I liked him (with two exclamation marks!!) this year the thrill is gone.
Stefan Todorovic: I don't like him (but I would probably love him as a non-Sixer).
Adem Bona: I like him so much I'm considering BBall nickname derivatives.
Judah Mintz: I like him as long as he's not starting in place of players I'd much rather be watching.
Jack Clark: The baseball player? Then who's small forward, Steve Balboni?
Caleb Stone-Carrwell: I like the name.
Saint Thomas: RIP Val Kilmer.
Hunter Sallis: I like him!
Andrew Funk: I need a jersey.
Landers Nolley II: Hope he's as excited for the Oasis reunion tour as I am.
Mark Armstrong: I hear good things.
Alex Reese: I don't like him.
V.J. Edgecombe: I like him, but not enough to not be at least a little bit freaked out by how flat the jumper looks. Sorry. Bad memories.

Ok … obviously your article you have written evaluating the summer league players we read with interest to hear what you had to say but so much
negativity without explanation of why you analyzed these players in that manner really was not helpful.
Judah Mintz … I thought you liked
So do we! He should receive a two way slot instead of Resse. Jalen
Hood- Schifino We like… smart athletic player and helps with good ball movement ( assists) etc… he should move to a Two way position AGAIN… and Jabari Walker should
take Counsil’s position ( as he is a non guaranteed player.
Brome has been a disappointment so far, he is to slow and his reaction time is super slow, as has Edwards with his constant turnovers, he does not need to handle the ball.. Mintz is good and of course VJ and Bona.. Shifino needs more time in the G League and playing 2 guard.. Sallis needs some time in the G league, I think he may be good.. That is all I see so far.. We will watch the rest of the summer league to see if anything changes..
