Question … focusing just on basketball talent alone … would Daryl Morey consider taking a 10-day flyer on Michael Beasley?!? He could definitely fill in as the stretch power forward role with his shooting and defense.
I generally think Mike is right about the Sixers pressure to make a run, and as good as that listener's list was, I think a lot of people are missing the "run" part of it. The Oilers have pressure to win a Cup but they made it to Game 7 of the Finals this summer!
Leafs are clearly #1, they would have 8 straight first round exits if it wasn't for one second round appearance where they got slaughtered. Their fans would kill for the Sixers' run. That run includes losing to the Bruins (their Celtics) in an overtime Game 7, losing to Tampa in a Game 7, losing to Montreal in a Game 7, and losing to Boston in two other Game 7s! We have nothing on them.
I also think Mike greatly underestimates Dallas' pressure. Fluky stuff happens in the playoffs, sure. But not for 30 years! Bounces even out. I live in Texas and I do not meet people saying "oh, we'll see how the bounces go." Spike may have gotten closer to being right in that the sheer length of this means they may be hopeless. But there's more pressure on Dak, plus it's football which is massively bigger.
I also think the Yankees are underrated in this. If they don't win the pennant this season it's the longest stretch without a pennant since before Babe Ruth arrived! Plus they made an all in trade for Soto and are wasting the prime of Aaron Judge, who is very Embiid like. They need to make a run this year.
