We’re working with some folks on building and growing a new podcast app called Cooler.
Essentially the idea is podcasts with great communities (like ours), have a place to talk about the podcast on the actual app they’re listening on. So on Cooler, in each episode there is a comment function (you can also like, love, etc…). As well, there are some features that are sort of Twitch-like, in that there are leaderboards for who listens to the pod the most times in a row. There are badges, all that cool shit. Also, you can just listen to whatever podcast you normally do in the normal way you do it.
We are opening this up for only 100 BETA testers. So if you download and use the code, we’d ask that you please use it and explore it and be ready to give feedback. If you don’t think you’ll do it, please don’t do it. As time goes on, we’ll add more BETA spots for more casual users and fewer psychos.
To download Cooler and be a tester, please hit this link: https://www.cooler.fm and use code LICKFACE when you download.
They will send you some surveys, but if you have other feedback, please send to mike@cooler.fm as frequently as you want. Mike is a Ricky guy so he’s safe.
A few notes, because I’ve been using it through a couple of different versions:
1. You can add pods that are paywalled by tapping the “+ URL” button above the seach box when you go to add a pod. Just enter the URL there and you’ll have your pod in your library.
2. Search might be a little tricky at first for your other pods until more people are using the app and there is some data on what is most popular. If you’re adding another pod via search just make sure you’re searching the title as specifically as possible.
3. Since this is in BETA, and we are early, most of the pods won’t have the comment function because their owners have not joined. But the Ricky will, and that’s the place we’re looking to try this.
That’s all! Have fun. Let us know what you think. Also Daryl, don’t fuck up free agency or the comments are going to suck for you.
