What’s your thinking on reuniting with PJ Tucker on a minimum contract? Does he still have 12-15 minutes/game of playoff basketball in him?

Spike won't like me for this answer, but I absolutely would not bring back PJ. It turns the offense into 4-on-5, especially without the passing of Harden, and the Clippers hit their 26-5 stretch last season starting with the exact game they fully benched PJ and kept him out of the rotation.

Under absolutely no circumstances.

He's pretty old but I'm always in favor of PJ Tucker.

How if at all does this offseason change the sixers identity? Still pieces to fill out but wonder how replacing Tobias with PG and getting a new 4 changes the offensive or defensive flow

Expand full comment
Spike Eskin's avatar

I don't think it changes the identity from last season, I think it only reinforces the identity they had last year.

I think Daryl is just going to be patient here and wait for situations like Oubre here. Assuming they waive/trade BBall and keep Martin's cap hold, they probably have $8 mill or so. Split that between two of the free agents left (lets say Highsmith and Josh Okogie for instance or Highsmith and trade for Aldama - both at $4 million). Sign two or three more minimums and you're ready to go and also have the Martin deal to make a trade mid-season if necessary.

Convince me trading a first for Santi Aldama isn't the next move we should lock in. He would be perfect for us.

Spike Eskin's avatar

I will convince you by telling you I don't even know who that is.

Daniel Olinger's avatar

Santi is an interesting option as a 4 who can bring off-ball rim protection but his offense has never really been there, the finishing in the paint thru any kind of contact is just brutal

Out of 10, how would you rank each player on our roster at the moment?

all 10s except Eric Gordon (6)

Haha, was thinking they'd be mainly 7s and 6ers

How long do you think it takes before Kelly Oubre is the no-doubt better player than Paul George in this system? Is there a world Kelly opts out next year and we pay him a bigger long term contract due to a great 24/25 season?

this is an insane question and I absolutely love it

What are the current odds Ricky Council is the starting 4? Higher than 10%?

Spike Eskin's avatar

I think lower than that.

Ok cmon … maybe it’s 10% now 8-)

You have to bring in one current sports (sports as in someone who has/had their hand in the dirt) podcaster in as a permanent third mic, only you and Mike must agree on the choice. Who do you choose?

Expand full comment
Spike Eskin's avatar

So you're saying nobody on the current Ricky staff?

It’s definitely Tommy … he has more time now

Have to have played a professional sport, these are the arbitrary laws that must be followed. If someone on staff had their hand in the dirt, they are allowed.

Spike Eskin's avatar

I think we would both be fine with Pat Bev.

That’s a really good choice. He’s great. It would be fun to see you guys have to be stuck with lebron, and who would call him out on silliness first.

What are your thoughts on signing/ trading for one of the hawks two wings hunter and saddiq bey. Also would you be interested in Gary Trent jr who somehow is still unsigned

Expand full comment
Spike Eskin's avatar

I love Gary Trent Jr. He's a good extra piece. Big balls. Wouldn't count on him for anything important though.

Expand full comment
Daniel Olinger's avatar

Saddiq Bey was really, really bad last year, and not just as a shooter. He was one of the worst off-ball defenders in the NBA by a wide margin.

Gary Trent Jr has some very notable weaknesses, but if the Sixers can sign him at under-market value then I'm all for it.

How do you think players will perceive / react If KJ gets a ballooned deal for as S&T and bball is cut. I don’t think many understand the cap gymnastics and will see a minimum guy getting a huge contract and a rotation player getting waived. Any negatives inside or outside the locker room?

Expand full comment
Daniel Olinger's avatar

Not gonna speak to the players but I doubt the Sixers would do this since Nick Nurse personally really likes KJ from what I've seen.

Expand full comment
Spike Eskin's avatar

I don't think the players care about this very much.

Ben W's avatar

Have you ever had a coworker who was not very good at their job and also makes way more than you? I doubt they won’t care!

Expand full comment
Spike Eskin's avatar

They just spent 5 years paying Tobias Harris max money and none of the players cared. If he was an asshole they might care. If it went to him instead of someone else they might care. In this situation it's not going to be a big deal. He hardly matters anyway.

Interesting question, but I think the balloon deals are mostly fake (nonguaranteed) and the players get it.

Looking forward to them trading picks and Drummond at the deadline for more star power and going into the playoffs with Morris as the backup 5.

Would rather play Morris as the backup 5 in the playoffs than Drummond.

Morris? He doesn’t rebound and shoots too many mid range shots - why would sixers do that again?

Hi Dan, thanks for responding. All due respect, I just don't think that is a realistic option, as much as I agree with you. Any thoughts on who might be a realistic option? Someone who we could get at a reasonable price and be not be a zero when it comes to shooting, rebounding, or defense?
