No disrespect to the place across the street, but Chubby's has the best cheesesteak in the Rox/East Falls corridor and glad I made the stop last week. Might do it again this weekend.
Spike's Corner... Harden Ain't Goin' Anywhere
Every week, Spike or Mike will write something for the Corner Three Newsletter. It's Spike's turn, who is talking about the Harden rumors.
We've been hearing about this since Christmas, but it isn't stopping until July 1 (at least). Shams says that James Harden is torn between going back to Houston and staying in Philly.
A lot of times we'll hear this sort of stuff from Shams or Woj or Sixers Adam or whatever and we'll just be plainly like "oh this is is a negotiating tactic." Never have I ever seen one that is more clearly a negotiating tactic than this one. He's coming back for some stupid, three year, $135 million deal. I can feel it in my fucking bones. You can set your multiple Keith Pompey phone alarms for July 1st when you see the tweet.
Let's get a few things straight: first of all, since the Sixers and the Rockets are the only two teams that he'd reasonably go to that have the ability to sign him to some giant contract without working out any sort of trade, they are basically the only two teams on the market. Second, I simply do not believe either team is handing him that max deal he wants. I give his new agent credit for trying to create a bidding war between two teams that only sort-of want him. And third, and most importantly, Daryl Morey is the President of the Sixers and he loves James Harden.
I just don't see this going any other way. He loves James Harden, he's always loved James Harden, and he always will love James Harden. We all saw the hug after Harden got off the plane.
Most times when I say "I hope I'm wrong," I do not hope I'm wrong. I almost always hope I'm right, and hate being wrong. But this time, I can assure you, I've never wanted to be more wrong in my life. I'd celebrate my wrongness. I'd put this essay on a tshirt and wear it. Please be wrong.
