Hello and Happy Thursday, it's the Corner Three!
The Sixers played their first real basketball game since they got swept out of the bubble and I lived to write about it.

Loved, Liked, Eh
Loved:
Maxey & Milton
Great start for both guys and a nice welcome to the league moment for Maxey having to hoop against Russell Westbrook and Brad Beal. He looked confident in his runs, got his points and didn't look gun shy. I think what I like most about his game is that the moment never looks to big for him. He's only two years removed from high school and you really can't tell. Shake was just shake, leading the second team, not getting lost on defense, and playing with more confidence by the minute. If you want any idea of how much his coach believes in him, he ended the game running the offense with Ben Simmons in the dunker spot. Nuff said.
Liked:
Joel Embiid
Fast start, stagnant middle but dominant end. I think this season for him will be just as much about constantly being reminded and reminding himself that most nights the opposing team does not have answer for him and he'll need to act on that advantage as well as be quicker with the ball in diagnosing double teams (stop me if you heard that before).
The Second Unit
Tyrese Maxey, Shake Milton, Korkmaz, Mike Scott (What up Hive) and Dwight Howard, all played really well together and even with a bit of synergy, almost like they compliment each other really well, novel idea. Part of this group paired with Embiid was the reason the Sixers hopped out of their second half hole and mounted a comeback, so there's definitely some real shit there. I have no qualms at all with this being the crew, dare I say, the new Night Shift? Only time will tell, and to be honest I think we're closer to Shake and Seth Curry swapping spots but I still like that idea and what this set could be moving forward.
Dwight Howard
Mentioned him above but in general I like what he's been bringing so far in the two preseason games and last night. Tough on both ends and a lob threat whenever he's running a pick and roll.
Eh:
Starting Five
They looked like horse shit for most of the night. Out of sorts, not talking at all and not looking as comfortable with each other on either side of the floor other as maybe we were led to believe. I suspect things will get better but it was certainly alarming to see them struggle with some of the same issues from the past two seasons.
Long Two's
Daryl Morey had to have been pulling his hair out. Way too many times did you see guys pass up an open three for a mid-range. I totally get that sometimes you're forced into those shots but when your defender is sagging 10 feet away you gotta pull that bad boy and ask questions later.
Tobias Harris
His coach says he looks uncomfortable and hesitant, I say he looks lost, you scream, I scream we all scream what the fuck is wrong this dude? He looks less confident each time out and not quite sure what else Doc Rivers has up his sleeve to help him but I guess we shall see how things progress or if they do at all.
All in all, it was one game and a win is a win, and if the offense hadn't gone as cold as my college girlfriend's heart (Nichole what up, I got a newsletter now so I guess I won) they probably win that game by double figures, but it did and they didn't and some old demons reared their ugly heads so there's work to be done for the next 71!
