The Opening Tip
Hello and Happy Thursday, it's the Corner Three!
He's Here, and He's Spectactular
The Sixers hooped for the first time in what what feels like forever. We laughed, we cried, Shake Milton got double teamed at half court.
Let's get going!
Mike O'Connor did one of his film breakdowns for our YouTube channel. He talks about Shake and Maxey's success, Matisse's struggles, and how Ben Simmons looked. WATCH IT! Subscribe here.
This Week In The Pod
There was basketball played at the Wells Fargo Center Tuesday night and while it was a (weird, peculiar?) scene it still felt normal for parts! Spike and Mike react to preseason game 1, Sam Hinkie's new website, and Sixers Adam's Process glow up.
I hope you guys haven't gotten your feel of Harden rumors because there's much more smoke and most of it is now, apparently, pointing directly at the Sixers. All that plus 8 Sixers big questions and Doc vs PG.
The Carl Landry Record Club podcast put out a brand new episode with Wild Pink lead singer John Ross. Listen to it here! And they put together playlists of their favorite music from 2020, see them here.
Snow, ice, rain, snow, then ice again. It's also 25 degrees. It's been a really fun couple of days. Let's face it, all winter you're going to be stuck at home. You might as well be stuck at home with Stateside Vodka. You don't have to drive anywhere! It's gluten free, sugar free, kosher, everything. You can get Stateside Vodka at their website, get it delivered anywhere in PA, or just go to your local liquor store and pick up a bottle. You better be at least 21, and you better be enjoying responsibly.
Oh Yeah,The Sixers
Man, there was some basketball played by the Philadelphia 76ers and watching it didn't kill me or make me feel worse about myself than I already do, YET.
Loved, Liked, Eh
Loved
Joel Embiid
He looked GREAT. His coach even said as much postgame when he mentioned that alot of his scoring came from plays that weren't even designed for him and where he and his teammates were just smart enough to exploit the sometimes massive advantage he had over Celtic defenders in the post. That's terrific news especially on a night where he registered 18 points in only one half of action.
I think when you're typically one of the best players on the floor and on some nights, THE best player on the floor, the ball should always find itself in your hands. So I'm not concerned about Embiid's touches as we have no reason to be, but I will be paying very close attention to his energy which is very well documented as fluctuating from moment to moment/game to game last year. He looked rejuvenated, a bit bouncier than usual and definitely like a guy who wanted to set a tone early on. Time will tell but can't help but be optimistic on where the big fella is right now.
Tyrese Maxey
The 6'3, twisted hair prince who was promised. He's everything we hoped and I still can't believe he fell into the Sixers laps at 21. If you had told me three months time would bring the Sixers Doc Rivers, Daryl Morey and Tyrese Maxey I would have told you to go fuck yourself for playing head games with me.
Maxey, man. He's all ours. Every runner in the lane, herky jerky stutter step then tear drop floater over an outstretched hand, all of it, just all of it. I can't fathom a scenario where he doesn't continue to get more practice time and inch further and further up the depth chart, possibly (probably) pushing everybody's favorite vlogger down the pile.
Shake Milton
It's not a bit, he's really fucking good and he's playing with supreme confidence in himself and his game right now and it really shows. The Celtics trapped him at half court! please comfortably place your 6th Man of the Year bids before the rest of the league finds out.
Liked
They like each other!
Maybe I'm reading too much into last season or last night but it really feels like this group of players enjoys playing with each other. I don't need them to be best friends off the court, although that would be great too, but just the cheering and high fives and spirited yelling from the bench tells me this group, this coaching staff has put a premium on supporting one another and being vocal on both ends of the floor.
Eh
Matisse and Tobias
Good grief. More of the same (unfortunately). Tobias passing up open three's for long two's, Matisse just jogging around the perimeter hacking the shit out of people, no offensive game, just vibes. We'll try not to read too much into one preseason game (who are we kidding?) but man it would be great to have these guys up to speed and comfortable in a hurry.

A Ben Simmons/James Harden swap probably makes most sense for both sides but maybe let's wait and see a bit? Andrew Unterberger makes the case for playing the waiting game. Brought to you by Kinetic Skateboarding.
