The Opening Tip
Hello and Happy Thursday, it's the Corner Three!
The Sixers want to build a billion dollar arena on the Philadelphia waterfront and people in hell (Sixers fans) want ice water.
There's some incredible basketball being played in the bubble right now. I can't tell you guys how refreshing it is to watch a team score points without having it feel like it took 20 years off my life.
Rest in Power, John Thompson. Rest in Power, Chadwick Boseman.
Lets get to it!
Merch Corner
The masks from Buddha Babe are back, and they're black this time. We made 100 of these, they're super comfortable, washable, and you'll support not just a Philly business, but for every one that gets sold, we'll donate one to a kid at a Philly public school who needs one. They come in adult and kid sizes, get one here. We've also got a few dog bandanas left so you two can match.
MERCH PROMO CODE: HOTSEAT10 (this is for 10% off any non-sale item in the Merch Store. It's good till 9/9 when it changes again to keep you on your toes). PS: This is not good for Buddha Babe merch.
This Week In The Pod
Ever the timely, collaborative bunch, the Sixers let it leak last week that they are seeking public funding for a new arena in Philadelphia. The guys talk about those plans, why they suck, and discuss Sixers coaching search and empty the Lorenzo Brown Mailbag
In another episode of, What the Fuck even is this Podcast? Philadelphia City Councilwoman Helen Gym joins Spike & Mike to discuss the Sixers arena plans, how Josh Harris is a big, selfish, baby and where things could go from here. Mike also comes out on fire, wanting to get someone fired.
Win The Shirt
My pinned tweet is now on a t-shirt, all that school paid off. We made 50 of them, and we'll give away five a week only here in the Corner Three. The rule is you have to open the email (creepy right?). This week's winners announced next week.
LABOR DAY WEEKEND WITH STATESIDE
If you're lucky, you've got that three day weekend coming up, and Philly's own Stateside Vodka is making sure the whole weekend is covered with the giant, magnum, 1.75 litre bottle. If you want to enjoy it responsibly, you can get it at PA Wine and Spirits, or directly from the Stateside folks for curbside pickup. If you live in the Philly five-county area you can even get it delivered. And thank 'em because they're buying the shirts.
Charity Spotlight
Time is the most important asset we own. Big Brothers Big Sisters Independence is an organization that strives daily to encourage and empower Philadelphia children to reach their full potential through 1 to 1 mentoring relationships with adults. Oh Yeah,The Sixers
On Joel & Jimmy:
I'm not inventing the wheel here or offering anything that hasn't already been said but you should expect this relationship to come up frequently this offseason. These two are actual friends, still want to be teammates and according to Jimmy, talk everyday. I see both sides here. There are people turned off by Embiid subtweeting or mentioning in interviews how much he loves and misses Jimmy and wishes he was here and there's folks who can't get enough of it. I probably fall in the camp of, "I get it, you miss him, but can you atleast promise we'll get your best until you two are united again?"
On the Coaching search:
Jay Wright (rightfully and intelligently) said no thanks yesterday and literally 2 hours later a report surfaced that once again there was very strong interest between the Sixers and Ty Lue. I'm very fine with Lue, but I'm not talking coaches until our #EVERYBODYGOTTAGO agenda is fulfilled.
On the Sixers ownership proposal for a Penn's Landing Palace:
Get fucked, clowns
The Rest From The Best
Brett Brown coached 102 (Holy shit) players during his time in Philly. Our guy, Mike O'Connor, combed through, ranked them and came out with the best 8 rosters from the BB era.
The Process worked (GFY Mike Greenberg) but one of the things Team Ricky does best is relitigation baby! Andrew Unterberger got the whole crew together to rank and blurb about the top 50 moments where the Process went wrong.
I don't expect a brand new team next season, but I do expect a bunch of new faces and to say goodbye to some loveable ones. Sixers Adam gave his educated opinion on the likelihood of each current Sixer staying or going!
Peace, Love and Process
Until next week, folks. Stay healthy, humble and be kind to your servers.
