5 Questions for the Stuck on 1's
Zo answers your Q's about a team that's been bad and is about to get worse.
1. Should it be this bad?
NO. Man fuck no. It’s really so damn awful. Unfortunately with the latest news, it’s only going to get worse.
2. Where does the blame lie?
Tough to blanket this with “injuries” but yes not having your best player certainly matters. I also point toward coaching too though, and in some instances a coach who will not be changing his spots anytime soon. That’s every coach though, right? And in all honesty I’m not quite sure how creative I can expect him to get when he’s staring down the barrel at Kyle Lowry and Eric Gordon.
3. Will Daryl Morey foot any blame at all?
No. At least not publicly, at least not yet. Not his fault his big three won’t play a game together until December, but it is definitely his fault that the drop off post Embiid/PG/Maxey seems to be as steep as Mt. Everest. I’m not quite sure what we expected from the other guys but this team (supposedly) was built with enough talent to withstand not having one or two of its stars at any given moment — and yet it hasn’t looked anywhere close to that, and if I’m being honest this thing may get way uglier before we see any signs of life.
4. When you look at this team, are there one or two flaws that you see or just bad basketball in general?
Mostly the latter — which is unfortunate, because in typical Sixers fashion they look incredibly competent and dialed-in for the first half, just enough time to get you to buy in before the second half implosion. I remember an analyst saying that the NBA plays so many games that teams get little to no practice time during the season, so whatever needs to be fixed on this roster will need to be player-led.
5. What’s one glimmer of hope/reason people should even care right now?
I won’t bullshit anyone, this is a bad team, incompetent most times even. However, They still aren’t even close to the finished product and if I can sell you on anything, let it be that, live on the wings of optimism that once it’s right, this thing will be rolling.
