5 Questions for the One-Game-Out-of-the-Play-In Sixers
Some good, some shit on the road trip but such is life with this team (apparently).
1. How much do you trust this team in any capacity?
As it relates to keeping any kind of pace and winning the ones you need to win and stringing together a pivotal stretch of wins — which is basically the rest of the season — man, not much at all. Not the players or the coaching staff. Sure Nick Nurse has a ring, but too many times he coaches this team like he has 8, springy 6’8 guys at his whim at that just isn’t the case. Hopefully they all prove me wrong. I’m begging them actually.
2. Do you think the Maxey attitude era (WWE Heads what up) is here to stay or just a product of a guy having to shoulder the load for much of the past 1.5 seasons now?
I think 50/50. We saw shades of it last year, a foreshadowing if you will. I actually don’t mind the emotion and fiery display, I think it’s great. However, I would love to see less of the visible frustration with teammates. I know it’s tough when you’re still figuring out how to lead, and show folks you’re worth every bit of that 200 mil, but slow and steady will win this race.
3. Do you believe in the Joel Embiid resurgence?
I actually believe in this more than anything else related to this fucking team because there’s long history behind it. The ramp-up, the fake comeback, then the actual comeback. We’re in the actual comeback phase I’d say. He’s even giving us mopey, whiny Jo at times, full back.
4. What are your expectations for weeks leading up to the trade deadline?
This roster is so damn old and unathletic, that if you’re serious about any sustained second half run you almost have to make a move(s) now. There’s no telling what’s going to be out there but I can’t imagine you can keep up a real come-from-behind, mad-dash pace, asking old guys with older knees to play 20-25 minutes a night.
5. Birds playoff prediction?
Green Bay will be up to the challenge but I think a field goal wins it for the good guys. Talk to me next week about second and conference championship round.
