SPIKE'S CORNER... DRAYMOND GREEN IS A LOSER
New to the Corner Three Newsletter: every week Spike or Mike will write a section, aptly titled Spike's Corner or Mike's Corner. It's Spike's turn today, and he's writing about Draymond Green.
We make everything a little more complicated than it needs to be. I've seen far too many people slowing down the video of the Draymond Green and Domantas Sabonis, trying to figure out what happened to parse out whether Green deserved to be suspended. Maybe the right angle will show us whether there was a second shooter in the grassy knoll.
You only need to watch it once. He kicked him in the chest. And then he stood there yelling at the crowd after he did it. He clearly should be suspended. If any other player (outside of maybe Patrick Beverley or Dillon Brooks) did this, we'd assume they had some sort of psychotic break. Yes, Sabonis seemed to grab his ankle, and is probably an annoying person to play against, but you still can't kick him in the chest.
More importantly, this Warriors season was over before it started, and that is also Green's fault. When Draymond knocked out his own teammate and the Warriors didn't do anything about it. How can you hold anyone accountable on a team when something like that isn't punished, or the player isn't traded? Forgetting about how outrageous the entire incident was, Poole has had to live with being publicly embarrassed by the guy who then remains a constant reminder that it happened at all.
The Warriors are a six seed, who only had one more win than the Lakers and two more wins than the TIMBERWOLVES. They were 11-30 on the road and were already down 2-0 in the series WITH Draymond Green. This is a lot more likely the last gasp of a former great team than some sort of unstoppable force hiding in plain sight.
When Mike Tyson and Tiger Woods had passed their prime, we spent years expecting them to go back and be their old selves. In part because they just sort of looked the same, and in part because we were so in awe of their previous greatness. I'd argue that still this element exists to both. The Warriors are probably in the beginning stages of that part of their career. The Poole Punch was the Mike Tyson biting of the ear, and the Chest Stomp is the fight with Peter McNeeley.
The Warriors dynasty is probably over, and Draymond Green is a first-ballot hall of famer. He's also a first ballot dickhead who cost the Warriors a title by punching LeBron in the dick, knocked out his own teammate on video and kicked Domantas Sabonis in the chest. Also, his podcast stinks.
